As a classical musician, tell me what we could do better. What is it about classical music that keeps you away from our concerts?

There's a section where someone says that the performances of the same symphony sound the same. And then someone gets defensive and says "No it doesn't, you don't know classical music."

Which is precisely the problem.

If you are performing something that only a small percentage of people can appreciate, then you can either: 1) live with an ever dwindling audience, or 2) find a way to create the audience you need for the material you want to perform by actually educating the audience about what you are doing, or offering an interpretation/explanation of the material.

Or you can do something that appeals to a wider audience.

The reality is that symphonies behave way too much like they are musical art museums. They rely on a small number of wealthy donors to support them, and this audience tends to be more culturally conservative.
