For a while, I was very confused about the word "cheers." In the US, it means "let's drink." But I think I have figured out what it means here, or how it is use. Basically, it ends an exchange. You buy some stuff at a store - when you get your change, you say "cheers." It is basically used in a number of places I'd say thanks. It also seems like it is kind of a reflex.
