I don't get a great deal out of watching most sports, but I love discussing team names and uniforms. My favorite team names are those that are named after food. I exclude all of the teams named after things that could potentially become food, but are still animals (various types of livestock, fowl, fish, and crustacean would all fall under this - for example: Delaware Cows, Durham Bulls, Long Island Ducks, Seattle Steelheads, Hickory Crawdads, and Charlotte Stone Crabs).

Some baseball teams named after food
Cedar Rapids Kernels (Midwest League)
Montgomery Biscuits (Southern League)
Modesto Nuts (California League)
Walla Walla Sweets (West Coast Collegiate Baseball League)
South Georgia Peanuts (defunct, formerly of the South Coast League)

Similar to the Brandon Wheat Kings (WHL) or Nebraska Cornhuskers (NCAA) - the Mexican Pacific League has teams named after workers involved in the production of food, but not actually named after the food: Tomateros, Naranjeros, and Caneros.

The Wenatchee Applesox (West Coast Collegiate Baseball League) are named after an item of clothing that is named after a food which is famously grown in the area.

Some other teams named after food
Concordia Cobbers (NCAA) - they get a bonus for formerly being known as the Lutefiskers
Omaha Beef (Indoor Football League)
Colorado Ice* (ibid)
Iowa Chops (American Hockey League)

There are also teams owned and named after the Red Bull drink, but I think the drink and the name is gross.

One dearly departed drink-related football team is the Arena Football League's New Jersey Red Dogs, with a logo that is drawn from the beer.

The other category of names I think are interesting is diseases, medical conditions, or people suffering from either:
Adirondack Frostbite
Fever: Fort Wayne, Tri-Cities
Dallas Burn
Detroit Shock
Memphis Maniax, Orlando Rage and Rochester Raging Rhinos
Monroeville Zombies (fictional), Casper Ghosts, and San Francisco Demons
