For fan-projected sports-related psychodrama, there is no sport that compares to professional basketball. I think that more basketball "analysis" tends to be centered around these imaginary Freudian diagnoses of the players subconscious issues.
"Beautiful Girls" is a movie that I can come back to again and again. The dialogue is absolutely awesome (the delivery isn't flawless) - it captures the push and pull of home so perfectly. It's a quiet movie, too - it isn't completely diegetic, but it isn't far off.
