My sister uses Facebook a lot. There are a lot of things about it that bother me, but I really don't understand why a person would spend so much time using something that seems to hate you as a person. Who you are, your identity, your humanity. Your life and your interactions gets added to a river of "content" upon which advertising is sold.

The moments in your life that you care about, and that you want to remember - the graduations, the births, the weddings, and so on - they get quickly swept away and buried under an ever-growing pile of other stuff. Because nothing matters on Facebook.

The reality is that when you are using Facebook (the way my sister does, anyway) the life you are attempting to document - your life - it is disappearing. Attempting to assert your humanity is Sisyphean. Everything is Now, so you must forever be doing something Now. And there certainly is no Past.

There is just something monumentally disgusting about the whole thing.
