More Indie Than Thou: The Best Indie Rock Bands Ever, And Why You Will Probably Never Hear Them, So Just Trust Me On This One And Believe Me When I Say I Know More Than You, OK?

Chichen Itza Film Festival
Chichen Itza Film Festival will change your life. They only made one song, but released it over 3 records which are all recorded at different, completely unsupported speeds and formats. You cannot listen to the song unless you build a special player for each record, but the instructions on how to build each player are hidden and you have to follow a treasure map to find them. The song is around 140 minutes long and the vocalization mostly consists of a man with a clipped Southern accent reading articles from the May 1984 issue of Soldier of Fortune and August 1983 issue of Tiger Beat.

Mitzel's
Mitzel's usually makes an album every week or two and every one of them will change your life. Their albums are only available on wire reels (NOT tape reels) and will never be available in any other format ever so just forget about it. Their songs are highly charged personal anthems which often parody the social constructions and archetypical gender roles that pervade life in a border town.

Terms of Service
Terms of Service will change your life. The band is an 11 piece orchestra of siblings - the glassy-eyed illiterate sons and daughters of 2 tenured English professors. Their songs are composed slowly and deliberately in what is called 'tantric musicianship'. Each child is kept separate from the others - most have no idea how many bandmates they actually have - and is allowed to record their one measure per day before they are placed back into their room to consider how they could've made that measure better. The result is the most important, most iconic music ever made, with slinking, lilting rhythms, courageous basslines, heliocentric harmonies and anti-communist melodies. They distribute their albums by sliding them under the doors of homes that belong to registered level III sex offenders. I accidentally listened to their last song on a portable digital music player while standing up and I passed out. When I woke up I was naked, chained to a freeway guardrail and was missing the fingers on my left hand. I think they're going to open for Arcade Fire.
