In which I suppose my friend Dave starts asking for money in the manner of the hosts of an NPR pledge drive (as opposed to the normal way he asks)

It's time for Dave's Weekly Pledge Drive. If you value the service that Dave provides, please consider becoming a Dave member.

Remember a time when Dave said something that made you laugh or emailed you a link to the funny or ironic website? What value do you place on that? $10? $20? $1000? Whatever you can afford, Dave values your commitment to member-supported guys. There's really no other guy like Dave and by showing your support, you allow Dave to continue.

As a thank you for becoming a member of Dave, you will also receive a gift. At the $20 "Thanks, Man" Membership level, you will receive one 12 ounce can of whatever is cheapest when Dave goes shopping.

For $100, you can join the Gold Club. You will receive the same beer from the $20 level, plus Dave will purchase you an entire lunch (up to $5.00) at the fast food restaurant of your choosing. As an added incentive, new Gold Club members will receive one of Dave's T-shirts (selection may vary).

Benefactor and executive-level memberships, such as "Club Dave" for a $1,000 pledge, feature added benefits. You will have first choice of teams when playing video games with Dave and the right of first refusal for the last beer or pizza slice. Additionally, you will have a standing invitation to any concert of Dave's, should he ever get his band off the ground.

A lot of people don't realize that members like you are Dave's primary source of income. Dave does not currently have a job - he is a completely independent, non-commercial guy. Think about what those other guys have up their sleeve when they want to go some place. What does their employer want you to hear? When Dave talks, you have the confidence Dave does not have an agenda - he is just bringing the truth, every single day.

And it's expensive to bring the truth like Dave does! Dave came close to graduating with a degree in sports management. And despite not having a degree, he still has to repay his student loans and feed himself. His car leaks oil and he's trying to get that fixed, but the money situation is not good right now. Not good!

Think about when you are hanging out with other friends - what do you hear? Just a lot of commercials for their job or their wife or their girlfriend. But while they are talking about their job, Dave is delivering consistent, objective, commercial-free information and advice.

We need 3 more people to become members. Three more people to help out Dave. Think about how you rely on Dave everyday. Think about a time when you were feeling down and Dave lifted you up. Dave supported you and now Dave needs your support! Just 3 more people to become Dave members! A lot of people just wait to let others step up and support Dave. That won't get the job done! We need you to support Dave today. Go ahead and open you wallets and give it to Dave.

Dave values your input, too. He hears every single one of your questions, comments and concerns. Junior year, when you told him he was drinking too much and would probably flunk out, he heard that and it turns out you were right. Dave values your input and now Dave needs your help.

Three more people. Remember that when you support Dave, you aren't just supporting an unemployed college dropout - you are also supporting the local arts and culture community, since Dave is trying really hard to write some songs right now. Just three more before the end of hour. Check and see if your other friends will your match donations to Dave. Dave will also accept gifts of securities and would appreciate being included in your estate plan. Show your continued support for independent, non-commercial guys like Dave. We need friends like you to support Dave. Three more people to step up.
