Food policy, Africa, and Western romantics. There's a reality that Africa has tremendous water issues (big PDF) and it can't really support a water-intensive western diet/lifestyle.

A five-year old gouda: this was a really delicious cheese. The crystals that are in good parmesan are legion.

A wedding registry at Crate & Barrel that had some things that bugged me:
-grill press ("bacon press")
-hamburger press
-mango pitter
-egg timer (four of them)
-molcajete (like a mortar and pestle, but a little more foreign)

What comes with snow:
-News vans staking out intersections or bottoms of hills, waiting for low speed collisions
-People who are from colder parts of the country letting you know that this is not a big deal to them, and no one here can drive in snow.
-My mom will become concerned about leaving the house.

The year in film:
-January: bad movies
-February: worse movies
-March: more of them
-April: some good comedies
-May: superhero films appear
-June: kids films
-July: more big superhero ones
-August: often a large comedy movie
-September: bad would-be summer movies get dumped here
-October: mediocre movies, scary movies
-November: holiday movies
-December: "big" movies, movies asking for awards
