The Terrence Malick film, "The Tree of Life" - critics like it, audiences tend to be split between liking it and hating it (see here).

I watched it and I cried. I don't remember ever crying in a movie theater before. Is it abstract? Yes. It has the barest semblance of a plot, but particular moments are so profoundly... something. It's an emotionally exhausting movie to watch.

Being an eldest male child, the movie hit certain buttons for me that it probably wouldn't hit in other people. But I think anyone open to the experience can see it and be affected by it.
