You know those folks who protest television, that Hollywood is leading us into a moral sewer and we're all gonna rot in fiery pitta demons for it? Momma ain't one of those folks. She's sort of the opposite. She writes down what the folks on television say and do. "If they on TV, then they must be doing something right." Fame isn't salvation, but it's as close as we can hope to get. That's what she said.

She said she done some wrong things, too - things you ain't gonna see on TV. Standards and practices don't allow such things. And she lived her life with that pillar on her mind: "Would you want this to be on TV?" That's just the thing you gotta think about, or the Meanies in your brain gonna make you steal stuff or do other kinds of wrong. Also happened that it's a fairly good diet mantra, 'cause she never pigged out and ate real dainty always.

But Poppa grew up different than Momma. He ain't had a TV when he was a baby. He was on a farm and as a consequence he spoke mostly in aphorisms and rarely asked much questions of anyone. Or smiled. Poppa did not smile.

I'd say that them - Momma and Poppa - they weren't a good match, you know, but divorce is not something you want to be on TV. Sometimes folks on shows are divorced though, but it's like a sad thing. I asked Poppa once why he married Momma in the first place. Turns out it is easier tot talk in aphorisms about fallin' in love than dumping someone. Poppa always stayed real quiet about it, because divorce aphorisms are pretty lousy. He worked quietly and soberly and Momma watched TV, preaching the lessons to us.

So TV it turns out is pretty good about preaching tolerance and understanding, at least that it was Momma got out of "Alf" and "Mr. Belvedere" - it don't matter if you are an alien or just a gay, everyone's gotta live and stuff, so just leave everyone the hell alone. Anyway, so that's why I'm an ACLU member. Does that answer the question?
