Today's 15 Minute Girlfriend was on the bus this evening. She was reading a mass market women's magazine and listening to an iPod but she carried the air of sophistication well, while looking very comfortable. I got off, bought a Sonic Youth CD and didn't see her again. It would've been the intern from work, because she gave some welcome courtesy laughs to some jokes I offered at lunch, but she skimped on her portion of the check, so it's going to take her a while to get out of that doghouse.
This is a really good read: Pretty in Ink: Conformity, Resistance and Negotiation in Women's Tattooing. One of my faves: "Wrapped in discourses of empowerment, identity-exploration and personal meaning, some women offer elaborate justifications for their involvement in tattooing as a 'woman's' form of expression... these quests of individuality, as personally emancipating as they may be conceived, concern established ideas about femininity."
